Let it Go

Have you ever thought, what does it mean when you have a song stuck in your head on constant replay? You know, when you hear the song on the radio or television and you can't stop singing it in your head.

Maybe it doesn’t mean anything.. but what if it did?

Is it just a distraction to temporarily give your mind a break from all the "to do" lists, chores and errands you have to do? Or, a chance to test your memory as to how many of the lyrics you can actually remember…or… maybe…just maybe.. the song may be trying to give you a message?

Why it is that song, at that time? What does it mean? Ok I know that sounds crazy, but hear me out.

I am an awards season fanatic and love watching all the glitz and glamour of the Golden Globes, the BAFTAS, The Grammy's and on the weekend just gone, the big one, the Academy Awards.

One of my favourite categories is Best Original Song. This year they were all fabulous with "Happy", "The Moon Song", "Ordinary Love" and the winner "Let it Go".

" Let it Go" from the movie Frozen, is the song that has been in my head today. Beautifully performed at the Oscars by Idina Menzel (or "Adele Dazeem" according to John Travolta, lol). Plus I have to admit being a sucker for animated films and known to cry quite frequently at them….I can't help it, they are so real!

Anyhoo, I digress, back to the song. Now I do like it, but enough is enough. I have been trying to find the off switch in my head all day!

Then I started to think, maybe that song, with those words is there for a reason? What is it about the words "Let it Go" that could pertain to my own life at this present time?

That got me thinking…

Is there a lesson I need to learn about "letting go"? (I know there is a joke in there but I am staying away from it)

When I thought about it there sure was…and sorry to say many things came up.  My attachment to money and the lack of it at the moment; my car, that had just said it's last farewell and is at the wreckers, probably compacted into a tiny cube by now;  my thoughts of what I think I should look like;  what weight I think I should be, and the list goes on with all those other expectations of myself.

Darn it, that song sure did have a message for me…."LET IT GO"! All of it. None of that stuff is important, it's just stuff,  filling up my head with what I don't need, let it go, so that there is space for WHAT I DO WANT and DESIRE. When I actually did stop thinking about those things the relief was enormous.

What can you let go of today and make room for more of the things you desire? Keep the space open an clear for what is truly valuable and important to you.

Thank you " Let it Go".

Today the song had a message for me. How about you, what song is in your head right now….does it have a message for you?

Let me know, would love to hear your comments below or on Facebook and Twitter.

  1. A great post and a great reminder for me. I have some things I’m letting go of at the moment so your words were really timely. Thank you, Susie.

    • Thanks so much Wendy for your message. So glad that the post was helpful for you. All the best with your letting go. Susie

  2. Great post Susie, keep up your brilliant words!

Music defines me/I define music, and many songs (or artists themselves) inspire me. Recently it was the upbeat song “Don’t You Worry Child” by Swedish House Mafia that uplifted my spirits when I thought that all was hopeless, as I am searching for that ideal career spot. Another artist, so far, that I am thankful for is the Latina Artist Selena who just through her wonderful music and short life has inspired me to be the best I can be!

    • Hi Maya, thanks for your lovely comment. I am so happy that the song title helped you through a difficult time, that it was the right words that you needed at that time. Also that Selena, through her music has inspired you. Music is so powerful and yes it seems that certain songs and artists appear at just the right times to help us through things. Thank you Maya and best wishes. Susie

  3. I remember when songs started to come into my mind when thinking of something. Now when I have already known this for 17 years, it’s much more easier to understand but also, naturally (me being a bit suspicios sometimes) that if the case I’m working on at that moment relates to love or giving the best, it is easier to find ‘any’ that would please the moment. But the start 17 years ago was something else, and I want to share it to you.

It happened during my walking to the University. I’m not sure at which point of the day the song started but during my walking, I was thinking: Why James Bond’s theme For Your Eyes Only is hunting me? And because I’m poor with the lyrics (may know only the reverse, as was the case here) could not find any reason. Then I got it. I have to clear out here one thing before the final ‘reveal’. I can see poorly, i.e. my right eye is blind and with the left one I have to read from close distance and can’t see people’s faces on the streets. So, about the song… Couple days earlier I had seen first time the beautiful eyes one can have, eyes that belonged to a woman I asked for a coffee. Of course I had seen eyes also earlier on TV, and sometimes also while talking (in closer distance). But those eyes just blowed me off. So I did not wonder that she was already engaged. But I got the explanation for one of my most beautiful moments. And still, even today I don’t find any special interest for eyes, nor have I bumbed into with so amazing.

    • Hi Jari, wow that is such a wonderful story, of how the song title helped emphasise such a beautiful life moment, that sounds like is still giving you joy to this day. Thanks so much for sharing your story. Susie
